Introducing the College
Bahona College, accredited A+ by NAAC, is one of the premier institutions of Higher Education in Assam, affiliated to Dibrugarh University. Located in the rural outskirts of Jorhat, the College takes it name from the area in which it has been established. The college is the fruit of vision and labourof a few committed educationists, social workers, leaders and local residents.Since its inception in 1966, this college has been offering both Higher Secondary and Degree Courses to a large number of rural youths, who in the decades of the 60s and 70s, did not have much access to higher educationdue to poor transport and connectivity to the city. Since then, the college has recorded footfalls of not only the rural students but from the city, nearby towns and districts and neighbouring states. Bahona College is committed to offer holistic education to its students, emphasizing the need for skilling beside the traditional courses taught.

About the Department of Education
The Department of Education opened its Honors Course in the year 1976. Since then, it has produced more than forty batches of Hons graduates who are employed in various sectors. Presently functioning with four faculty members, headed by the Associate Professor and H.o.D, Dr. Indrani Borthakur, the Department continues to serve the college with its innovative and practice oriented teaching. One such step forward is the engagement of the Department in running the Four Year Integrated B.A. B.Ed and B.Sc B.Ed Courses to be offered by the college in keeping with the vision of the New Education Policy to introduce dual courses in Degree Programmes.
The College and the Department of Education realize the importance of professional training for teachers that will equip them with modern pedagogy, strategies and techniques required to engage in classroom transactions to maximize the benefits of the learners. With this objective, the College has signed an MOU with the Post Graduate Training College (IASE), Jorhat.As the last leg of this process, the Department awaits the permission of NCTE to admit the first batch of students for the academic year 2023.
